Plant and animal prints are valued not only for their beauty, but also as important scientific records. Expeditions to North America often included artists to record the native species and also brought back preserved specimens. From these records, prints were engraved, hand-coloured and published in sets or as plates for books. The Peter Winkworth Collection contains an impressive selection of 18th-century European prints and a rare Canadian set of flower prints dating from 1840.
