FUN AT LA RONDE
 La
Ronde was great fun for everyone.The designers of this project travelled
around the globe to draw inspiration from the world's best amusement parks.
They even received personal advice from Walt Disney. The Expo-Express
brought 22.5 million visitors to La Ronde during Expo 67. Visitors could
also take a cable car from the Expo-Express station: this route offered
a spectacular view of the site and the lac des Dauphins.

The more classic rides, such as the Ferris wheel and the carousel, stood
alongside new amusement rides. The Gyrotron, the star attraction at La
Ronde, promised a simulated visit to space followed by a virtual journey
to the earth's centre where visitors were confronted by a mechanical monster.
However, it was not as successful as the designers had hoped because its
cars had to slow down due to safety concerns.Other rides included the
Spiral, which took passengers to the top of a 60-metre (200-foot) tower,
and the popular Pitoune, a sort of boat that resembled a tree trunk with
seats and offered an aquatic roller-coaster ride.  Younger
visitors enjoyed the Monde des petits, with a train, mini-cars,
slides and other rides designed for children. At night, fabulous lights
and beautiful fountains transformed La Ronde into an enchanting place.
