![]() Minority Government
In a time of minority government, the prime minister depends on the support of one or more of the opposition parties. Because it is difficult to proceed with the government's agenda while also attempting to satisfy the opposition, such governments rarely last very long. Only one of the eight minority governments since Confederation lasted more than two and a half years (Mackenzie King, December 29, 1921 - June 28, 1926).
