Portraits of Greatness

Our prime ministers are officially commemorated in a variety of media, including the House of Commons portrait collection. The collection, which currently contains 13 portraits, has grown in a rather haphazard manner. Some portraits were commissioned by the prime minister himself, or by his colleagues; others by the Secretary of State; and some executed on the artist's initiative. The most recent one, of Pierre Trudeau, was commissioned by Public Works.
