Philatelic Tributes

John A. Macdonald and Wilfrid Laurier were the first prime ministers represented on stamps, in a series commemorating the 60th anniversary of Confederation in 1927. Other prime ministers were depicted in a series of eight stamps issued between 1951 and 1955. The 1973/74 issue of national leaders featured portraits drawn by David Annesley rather than photographs. The most recent prime ministerial stamp was the 2001 Trudeau commemorative.
