Biographical sketch
Born in Montréal, Quebec, baritone Paul Dubois studied piano with Ms. Picotte, harmony with Henri Miro and singing with Arturo Mazzini and Célina Marier.  From 1924 to 1930, his engagements included the Capitol and Amherst theatres in Montréal, the Union des dames libérales et des femmes conservatrices, and the Opéra-comique de Paris.  A singing teacher in the early 1930s, he was also music director of numerous musical events and organizations.  As a composer, he has left works for voice, chamber orchestra, orchestra, and voice and orchestra. 

Scope and content
The fonds consists of records pertaining to the musical activities of Paul Dubois:  correspondence; manuscript compositions by Paul Dubois, including Messe solonnelle, Ave Maria, Pensée, Le Gai printemps, the opera Les Amours d'un brigand and the lyric drama L'Iroquoise; arrangements for choir and orchestra; records of the Art et Gaité enr. choir, includes miscellaneous concert notes, press clippings and releases, draft programmes, programmes and posters; sound recordings by Paul Dubois; photographs and negatives chiefly depicting Paul Dubois, members of his family, and personalities from the music world. 

Immediate source of acquisition:  acquired from Viviane Larose, daughter of Paul Dubois, in 1991.
