Administrative history
Fusion group with many influences, formed in Toronto by bass guitarist Henry Heillig and percussionist Matt Zimbel, with others, including musicians Aaron Davis and John Johnson.  After a modest beginning in Toronto clubs, the group has performed in Canada, the United States and Europe.  LPs released by the group include No Heroes, Extra Extra and Later is Now. 

Scope and content
The fonds contains records pertaining to the musical activities of the group Manteca:  correspondence; contracts; manuscripts of compositions; financial records; tour records; certificate of merit; bids; promotional material; brochures; leaflets; concert programmes; press clippings; photographs of members of Manteca; sound recordings of concerts (El Mocambo, North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, etc.) and recording sessions.  Sound recordings also include interviews and publicity; videocassettes and films of Manteca containing, among others, interviews, concerts and publicity. 

Immediate source of acquisition:  acquired from Mitchell Cohen in 1993. 

Restrictions:  written permission from the donor to access the financial records and bids.
