Biographical sketch
Born in Peterborough, Ontario, Paul McIntyre studied composition with Oskar Morawetz and Arnold Walter in Toronto and with Olivier Messiaen and Tony Aubin in Paris.  His work mainly consists of vocal music on dramatic texts and chamber music.  An Associate of the Canadian Music Centre, Paul McIntyre also performed as a concert pianist and conductor in the 1950s.  In the course of his career, he has taught at the University of Minnesota and held the post of head of the department of music at the universities of Alaska and Windsor, among others. 

Scope and content
The fonds contains records pertaining to the musical activities of Paul McIntyre:  biographical documents; certificates; correspondence; manuscripts of compositions, including a Concerto for Piano and the cantata Judith; autographed concert programmes (Désiré Defauw, Francis Poulenc, Reginald Stewart, Leonard Warren, etc.); publicity; press clippings; travel photographs and of Paul McIntyre; sound recordings of works and concerts by Paul McIntyre performed by other artists including Lois Marshall, William Steinberg, Mario Bernardi and Roma Riddell. 

Immediate source of acquisition:  acquired from Paul McIntyre, in several accessions, between 1980 and 1995.
