Biographical sketch
Born in New Brunswick, Eldon Rathburn was a pianist in dance bands, a church organist, and a radio arranger in Saint John from 1939 to 1947.  He was subsequently employed by the National Film Board (NFB) as an accredited composer from 1947 to 1976.  Meanwhile, he taught composition technique for film at the University of Ottawa (1972-76).  His work includes some 200 scores of film music (chiefly NFB shorts), as well as numerous concert pieces. 

Scope and content
The fonds contains records pertaining to the musical activities of Eldon Rathburn:  autograph manuscripts of film music, including the works Nobody Waved Good-bye, The Enduring Wilderness and Haida Carver; concert scores; sound recordings of arrangements and compositions by Eldon Rathburn. 

Immediate source of acquisition:  acquired s from Eldon Rathburn in several accessions between 1978 and 1995. 

Restrictions:  none.
