George W. Strathy fonds.  - 1864-1884.  - 3 cm of textual records.  - 2 photographs. 

Biographical sketch
Professor of music and composer born in Scotland, George Strathy moved to Canada around 1835.  He was the first recipient of a doctorate in music in Canada (University of Trinity College, Toronto, 1858). 

Scope and content
The fonds consists of records pertaining to G. Strathy's activity as a composer:  autograph manuscripts of pieces for pianoforte for four hands and a ballad for voice and piano; photographs of portraits of George W. Strathy and his wife. 

Immediate source of acquisition:  acquired from Charles F.S. Tidy, grandson of G.W. Strathy, in 1983.
