Chapter 5. MusicContents:
5.1C - Optional addition. General material designation
|
Option (under 1.1E5)
Do not restrict the recording of other title information on the basis of language or sequence. Give other title information in the language of the title proper, the language of the parallel title(s), and in other languages as well, provided it appears on the chief source of information.
See Guidelines 5.2B1.
Guidelines
Care must be taken to distinguish between true edition statements for music publications and musical presentation statements that should not be used as edition statements.
Musical presentation statements should go in the statement of responsibility when the music itself is meant. Such statements include a version of the music, an arrangement of the music, or a transposition of the music. In all these cases, an "author" is responsible for a change in the original work. In other cases, when the music format is meant (e.g. edition in score format, edition as a set of parts, etc.), the musical presentation statement should be transcribed according to rule 5.3.
Option
The option is not applied. Any edition information supplied by the cataloguer is given in the notes area.
Option
Give parallel edition statements in accordance with the provisions established under "Levels of Detail in Description".
See Guidelines 5.2B1.
Option
The option is applied.
Give parallel musical presentation statements in accordance with the provisions established under "Levels of Detail in Description".
Option
The option is applied.
Reasoning
Because of the music publisher's and music distributor's (particularly of pop music) often rather different roles from those of the book trade's rough equivalents, distributor (international or Canadian) information is frequently of crucial importance, especially for acquisition purposes.
Option
The option is applied when the information is necessary for clarification and readily ascertainable. Liberal use of the option is discouraged and no strict uniformity is expected.
Option
The option is applied if such information is "considered important", i.e. rarely.
Option
The option is not applied.
Option
The options are not applied.
In giving the dimensions of an item requiring more than one measurement, use a lower-case "x" as the multiplication sign to separate each of the measurements.
Option (under 1.5E)
Add the details of description when the accompanying item(s) is (are) substantial in volume, important for the use of the score (e.g. a sound recording of taped sounds accompanying a score of an electronic music composition which is essential to the performance of the work), represents the score in recorded form, and/or seems capable of being alternatively and reasonably construed as the predominant medium.
Examples
For examples of notes used by Library and Archives Canada, see "Descriptive cataloguing notes".
Option
The option is not applied.
Reasoning
The title romanized appears as the title proper in LAC records.
Indicate in a note that the title proper has been romanized.
A duration that has been stated in the item is recorded in the following form in the note area.
Separate the digits representing hours, minutes and seconds by colons; precede a duration expressed in seconds only by a colon.
Precede a duration by "ca." only if the statement is given on the item in terms of an approximation.
Option
The option is generally not applied.
The option, however, will be applied (i.e., include the price) to preliminary CIP items. Do not update (i.e., neither delete nor change) this information upon receipt of the item.
Option (under 1.8E)
The option is applied only as a qualification to the standard number whenever applicable. Terms of availability are generally not used (see rule interpretation 5.8D).
When required, use a brief qualification (see 1.8E1) and note that consistency of terminology is not necessary. Do not make up and use qualifiers additional to that found in the transcribed data.
