Contents:

11.0B1 - Chief source of information Français

Interpretation

For reproductions on microfilm, the chief source of information is the title frame, unless:

  • there is no title frame;

  • the information on the title frame is insufficient or is presented in such a way so as to cause doubt as to its reliability or accuracy.

If either of these criteria apply, treat the rest of the item (including the reproduced title page or reproduced title page substitute of the original) as the chief source of information.

For reproductions on microfiche, the chief source of information is the title frame, unless:

  • there is no title frame;

  • the information on the title frame is insufficient or is presented in such a way so as to cause doubt as to its reliability or accuracy.

If either of these criteria apply, treat the "header" as the chief source of information unless the title appears in a shortened form on the "header" and appears in a fuller form on the accompanying eye-readable materials or container. In such a case, treat the accompanying eye-readable materials or container as the chief source of information.

However, if the information on the "header" or accompanying eye-readable materials is insufficient or is presented in such a way so as to cause doubt as to its reliability or accuracy, treat the rest of the item (including the reproduced title page or reproduced title page substitute of the original) as the chief source of information.

Information on title frame:

Title: Chemical processing

Microfilmed by:
Micromedia Ltd.
Hull, Quebec
1986

Information on caption of the original (i.e. reproduced title page substitute):

Canadian chemical journal
Published monthly by the Biggar Press, Toronto,
Canada, 1917

Transcription:
Canadian chemical journal [microform]. --
Hull, Quebec : Micromedia Ltd., 1986-

Explanation:

For this serial microreproduction, as the title frame information is considered to be inaccurate for the transcription of the title, the rest of the item becomes the chief source of information. The title is, therefore, taken from the reproduced title page substitute (i.e. caption) of the original. The publication information is taken from the title frame (i.e. the micropublisher is the publisher of this microreproduction).
