This catalogue is a complete record of the Hebrew, Latin, and Italian incunables now held in the Jacob M. Lowy Collection, within the Rare Books and Manuscripts Division of the National Library of Canada.

Although an indication is given of the number of separate volumes per title, no effort has been made to describe the condition of the incunables, which varies considerably, or to provide a full collation. It may be noted, however, that missing leaves in some incomplete incunables have been replaced by facsimile reproductions of original leaves, generally prepared from complete copies in the British Museum. Almost all of the incunables have been finely bound and boxed, in leather and in a modern style, many by Sangorsky and Sutcliffe and by Rivire and Son of London.

For the sake of correct identification, the entry numbers of the incunables in several standard catalogues have been provided for reference. (The abbreviations cited are noted below.) Since all of the Hebrew incunables, and all but two of the Latin incunables, have been included and described briefly in the exhibition catalogue, the number of the given entry in the exhibition catalogue has also been provided, behind a single bracket, following the other references.
