AMICUS
- Important resource developed by the National Library of Canada (NLC) for libraries, researchers, and the public
- Free service available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- 24,000,000 records: 16,000,000 from the Union Catalogue with the holdings of 1,300 Canadian libraries, 2,000,000 records from the National Library, and some records without holdings
- Useful for searching, information verification, reference, interlibrary loan, cataloguing information
- Records describe monographs, periodicals, newspapers, theses, government publications, maps, documents in print, microforms, or available electronically, and works in special formats such as Braille, large print, talking books, described videos, captioned videos for persons who are print or hearing-impaired
- Some records are for alternate formats in progress, also referred to as Canadian Works in Progress (CANWIP) / Registre des ouvrages canadiens en préparation (ROCEP)
- Some records do not provide holdings: those for alternate formats, records catalogued before publication, and some Library of Congress records
- Holdings of libraries and loan policies can be checked before a decision is made to borrow from a library
- Canadian libraries can send interlibrary loan requests via AMICUS
- AMICUS allows basic and advanced searching
