The inscription on this watercolour indicates that it is related to early exploration in the northwest Arctic. Three large Inuit canoes approach a British naval ship, while another group of Inuit people stand on the shore. On the far right, four navy men take readings on a sextant and a surveyor’s transit. A sailor fires at the approaching Inuit flotilla. A second watercolour depicts the imminent attack.
