Bath Profile Amendments

Previous | Next

Originator:  Bath Profile Meeting
Origination Date:  2001-10-03
Status:  Endorsed by Bath Profile Developer Group 2001-12-06

Preamble:

CENL has a need to mix attributes from multiple attribute sets in a query and for the definition of some searches not defined in Bath (e.g., a National Bibliographic Record Number, National Subject Headings).  First, this requires Version 3. This is handled currently in BP at Level 1. Bib-2 gives the best answer for this. But mandating Bib-2 in current Functional Area A is not acceptable.  Bib-2 will be included as a new Functional Area in version 3 of Bath, tentatively planned for 2003.  Functional Area A will be deprecated at that time and removed from the Profile

Amendment:

5.A.1. Functional Area A: Level 1 Basic Bibliographic Search and Retrieval

Add a statement: Clients and servers should actively support multiple attribute set values for queries by June 2003.

Add a new non-normative appendix Appendix E: Examples of Current Functional Area A Level 1 and 2 Searches Using Bib-2 Attributes to version 2 of the profile, targeted for June 2002.  This appendix will show how to express the current Functional Area A Level 1 and 2 searches using the Bib-2 Attribute Set and new Attribute Architecture.
