Introduction
The purpose of these activities is to give students the necessary foundation of knowledge in order to use the Canada Gazette as one of their primary sources for research. They will explore the role and components of the Canada Gazette, and the role and components of Primary and Secondary source documents. The activities may be used separately or consecutively.
At present, the database for the Library and Archives Canada (LAC) website, A Nation's Chronicle: The Canada Gazette, contains only a portion of the Canada Gazette. Library and Archives Canada hopes to have all volumes of the Canada Gazette, from 1841 to 1997, online by 2009. In the interim, relevant items from the Canada Gazette have been reproduced and included in these educational resources where necessary, for the convenience of teachers and students. Volumes after 1997 are available from the online database of the Canada Gazette Directorate.
