Handout 2.5
Facing the Scrum!

Previous | Next

Name: _____________________________________________________

1. Select a group member to take on the role of Minister. This person will present your group's information to the "scrum" of reporters (the rest of the class).

2. Make sure your Minister is ready for any questions from the "scrum". Discuss as a group what topics and questions might be raised by reporters, and provide ideas on how to remain politically correct.

3. When each Minister is presenting the strategy for his/her department or agency, you will become one of the reporters in the scrum. After listening to each presentation, as a group you must come up with 1 or 2 questions for the Minister that you might ask.

Some ideas for your questions:

  • Pay attention to the logic of the presentation.
Is it possible? Does it make sense?
  • What about hidden issues?
Is there anything this department may not want to discuss?
  • What about vested interests?
How did the department's particular needs influence what the Minister said?
Is there anyone's needs that are being left out?
Is there anyone that is being treated less fairly as a result of the recommendations?
