Carefully selected imagery prepared for the Immigration Branch of the Department of the Interior was instrumental in changing public perceptions of the West from a desolate and barren landscape to a bountiful and thriving agricultural region. Not surprisingly, the majority of promotional photographs were views of large farms and productive harvests.
