Annex 1. Application of the currency factor

Non-government publications initially intended for cataloguing at the full level will drop to the abbreviated level of cataloguing treatment when their imprint dates are older than the current year minus three years. This treatment also applies to Canadian children's literature (i.e. fiction and poetry for children).

EXAMPLE:
In 2009, non-government publications dated 2009, 2008, 2007 and 2006 will be catalogued at the full level; non-government publications dated 2005 or older will be catalogued at the abbreviated level.

Canadian music publications (including music scores and recordings) initially intended for cataloguing at the core level will drop to the minimal level of cataloguing treatment when their imprint dates are older than the current year minus one year. They will further drop to the minimal level of treatment when their imprint dates are current year minus two years through current year minus four years. Music publications with imprint dates of current year minus 5 and older will be catalogued at the abbreviated level. Music monographs included in the CIP program are the exception and are catalogued at the full level.

EXAMPLE:
In 2009, Canadian music imprints dated 2009 and 2008 will be catalogued at the core level; Canadian music imprints dated 2007, 2006, and 2005 will be catalogued at the minimal level; and Canadian music imprints dated 2004 and older will be catalogued at the abbreviated level.

Foreign music publications (including music scores and recordings) with more than 30% Canadian content will be catalogued at the minimal level for the first three years from their date of publication (i.e., current year minus 2). They will drop to the abbreviated level of cataloguing treatment when their imprint dates are current year minus 3 and older.

EXAMPLE:
In 2009, foreign music imprints dated 2009, 2008 and 2007 that have more than 30% Canadian content will be catalogued at the minimal level; foreign music imprints dated 2006 and older will be catalogued at the abbreviated level.

Federal government publications initially intended for cataloguing at the core level will drop to the abbreviated level of cataloguing treatment when their imprint dates are older than the current year minus two years.

EXAMPLE:
In 2009, federal government publications dated 2009, 2008 and 2007 will be catalogued at the core level; government publications dated 2006 and older will be catalogued at the abbreviated level.
