Cataloguing and Metadata
As of May 21, 2004, the National Library of Canada (NLC) and the National Archives of Canada (NAC) became Library and Archives Canada (LAC).
Implementation of Elements from Update No. 3 and Update No. 2
Sections 1, 2 and 3 of this announcement identify data elements from Update No. 2 (October 2001) and Update No. 3 (October 2002) to the MARC 21 Formats for Bibliographic and Authority data which will become valid in NLC's AMICUS system in December 2003.
This information is provided to assist in evaluating the impact on automated systems as these elements could be present in records issued by the National Library of Canada; this does not necessarily mean that these elements will be actively supplied by NLC cataloguing staff. This information will be of interest to MRDS subscribers and libraries contributing MARA records.
Data elements in bibliographic records are fully documented in the MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/ecbdhome.html. Elements in authority records are fully documented in the MARC 21 Format for Authority Data www.loc.gov/marc/authority/ecadhome.html.

- Bibliographic Elements For Interim Implementation Of Integrating Resources
As part of the implementation of the 2002 changes to AACR2: the interim procedure for cataloguing integrating resources added Serial 006 fields to monograph records (bibliographic level 'm' with monograph 008). The interim implementation began on AMICUS at the National Library of Canada Dec. 1, 2002 and will cease Nov. 30, 2003. Integrating resources will be catalogued using bibliographic level 'i' (integrating resource) and a Continuing Resource 008 field effective Dec. 1, 2003.

The following changes are left over from Update No. 2 (October 2001) to the MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data will still not be implemented on AMICUS at the National Library of Canada. A future notice will be issued when implementation details have been set.
