Implementation of new elements MARC 21 Updates no. 7, 8 and 9

Sections 1 and 2 of this announcement identifies data elements from Update No. 7 (October 2006), Update No. 8 (October 2007) and Update No. 9 (October 2008) to the MARC 21 Formats for Bibliographic and Authority data which became valid or were redefined in LAC's AMICUS November 2009.

Sections 3 and 4 identify data elements for which there are no current implementation plans.

This information will be of interest to users of LAC catalogue records, MRDS subscribers and libraries contributing MARA records. This information is provided to assist in evaluating the impact on automated systems as these elements could be present in records issued by Library and Archives Canada; this does not necessarily mean that these elements will be actively supplied by LAC cataloguing staff.

The following changes from updates to the MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data will not be implemented on AMICUS at Library and Archives Canada. Future implementation may be coordinated with implementation of a future integrated library system.
