Implementation of new elements MARC 21 Update no. 11

Sections 1 and 2 of this announcement identify data elements from Update No. 11 (February 2010) to the MARC 21 Formats for Bibliographic and Authority data which became valid or were redefined in LAC's AMICUS November 2010.

Sections 3 and 4 identify data elements for which there are no current implementation plans.

This information will be of interest to users of AMICUS catalogue records, MRDS subscribers and libraries contributing MARA records. This information is provided to assist in evaluating the impact on automated systems as these elements could be present in records found on AMICUS; this does not necessarily mean that these elements will be actively supplied by Library and Archives Canada cataloguing staff. Many of the changes in this update have been made in preparation for implementation of the new cataloguing rules, Resource Description and Access (RDA) in 2011.

1. New and Changed Bibliographic Data Elements

The following data elements from Update No. 10 and 11 to the MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data became valid in LAC's AMICUS November 2010. This information is provided to assist in evaluating the impact on automated systems as these elements could be present in records found on AMICUS; this does not necessarily mean that these elements will be actively supplied by Library and Archives Canada cataloguing staff.
