The collection was purchased in 1969.

Description
The collection is one of only half a dozen collections in the world which hold over one-third of all books printed before 1801.The collection contains seventeenth and eighteenth century English literature; seventeenth century political commentary; and seventeenth and eighteenth century imprints of criticism and commentary. The chronological emphasis is from 1638 to the present. Selective acquisitions are made as funds permit.
