The collection was acquired from Arthur Stockett in 1976.
Description
It contains literary forgeries and piracies printed by Thomas Wise, and works by and about Wise. Some of the forgeries are now relatively rare and many are hard to find. Ten letters written by Wise are also included. Few items are collected at present.

The collection is uncatalogued. Material is accessible from a loose leaf catalogue arranged according to William B. Todd's "A handlist of Thomas J. Wise", in Thomas J. Wise: centenary studies (Austin: University of Texas Press, 1959). Two sources used for subject headings are Todd's handlist, and Wise after the event: a catalogue of books, pamphlets, manuscripts and letters relating to Thomas James Wise displayed in an exhibition in Manchester Central Library, September, 1964, edited by G.E. Haslam (Manchester: Manchester Libraries Committee, 1964).
