The collection was established in 1966. It was purchased from the Trustees of Southgate Chapel, Gloucester, England.

Description
The collection is the collection of James Forbes (1629?-1712), a nonconformist minister in Gloucester, England, from 1654 until his death. It is a model of a seventeenth century dissenting library. Although mainly theological in character, it includes several medical books and a number of school texts.
