David Hume Collection McGill University, Rare Books and Special Collections Library Subjects Hume, David; Philosophy, British History Established in 1947, the collection was formed originally from the library's existing holdings and by extensive purchases in the late 1940s and early 195Os under the supervision of Prof. R. Klibansky and the University Librarian, R. Pennington. Other early contributors were Dr. J. W. A. Hickson and Dr. C. W. Colby. The collection has since been expanded regularly and systematically. Description The collection includes first, early, and variant editions and translations of works by David Hume; contemporary and modern criticism of Hume; and books from Hume's library. In addition, there are fifty one letters by Hume. Language English predominates. There are also translations and criticisms in various European languages. Holdings 546 monographs; 51 letters from Hume. Bibliographic Access The collection is fully catalogued using LC subject headings and classification. The records appear on MUSE (McGill Libraries Online Catalogue).
