T. Glendenning Hamilton Collection University of Manitoba Libraries, Elizabeth Dafoe Library Subjects Parapsychology; Spiritualism; Psychic phenomena History The collection was established in 1979. The collection of the papers and library of the late T. Glendenning Hamilton, M.D. and former member of the Manitoba legislature, was donated to the University of Manitoba Libraries. Dr. Hamilton's daughter Margaret H. Bach, together with friends, established an endowment fund at the university to support further acquisitions of books and manuscripts related to the collection. The collection was supplemented in 1986 by the purchase of several hundred monographs on spiritualism in the United States and Canada. Description Dr. Hamilton's long-standing interest in the world of psychic phenomena and parapsychology is represented in this collection of his papers and items from his library. The collection contains printed and non-printed works of Dr. Hamilton and his family, manuscripts, affidavits, photographs and related documents which attest to Hamilton's scientific and calculated approach to the study of spiritualism and parapsychology. The collection also contains a growing body of literature on parapsychology; standard works; several selected periodicals; and obscure items. The chronological emphasis is from 1850 to the present. The material is international in scope. The collection is the most complete of its kind in Prairie Canada. The library continues to selectively purchase works in parapsychology, spiritualism, and related topics through the T. Glendenning Hamilton Gift Fund. Language English predominates. Some German language material is acquired. Holdings 300 monographs; 50 serials; 1 audiotape; 2.5 linear metres of picture files; 2.5 linear metres of manuscripts; 350 photographs.
