The collection was created in 1987 following the acquisition of seven to eight thousand science fiction books from the estate of M. Gaétan Godbout. These books were purchased with the assistance of a grant from SSHRC. The collection was established to support the research work of the Centre de recherche en littérature québécoise (CRELIQ) and the Groupe de recherche interdisciplinaire sur les littératures fantastiques dans l'imaginaire québécois (GRILFIQ).
Description
The collection, which is updated on an ongoing basis, comprises almost all of the titles indicated in the bibliography of Henri Delmas and Alain Julian entitled Le rayon SF : catalogue bibliographique de science-fiction, utopies, voyages extraordinaires (Toulouse : Edition Milan, 1985).
Language
French original documents and translations predominate.
Holdings
7,000 monographs; 40 serials.
Bibliographic Access
Computer printouts, a COM catalogue and the A-G Canada Ltd system give access to the collection. LC classification is used.
Physical Access
