The Shaw Festival Archives inaugurated the University of Guelph's extensive theatre collections in 1983. In 1986, the Dan H. Laurence Collection of Shawiana was purchased. The Hamon Collection (Shaw's French translators) was acquired the same year.
Material on George Bernard Shaw will be found in the three named collections and in the library's general Shaw collection.The Laurence Collection contains all published works by and about Shaw including many audiovisual items, photographs, programs, rehearsal proofs, Fabian Society materials, flyers, brochures, clippings, and other ephemera related to the playwright. The Hamon Collection is a complete microfilm collection of the works of Augustin and Henriette Hamon, French socialists, and the translators of Shaw's works into French. This collection includes correspondence with Shaw and other leading figures involved with social movements from the 1880s to the 1940s. Texts on socialism and a large collection of original theatre items including translation drafts, clippings, photographs, designs, scripts, and published French plays also form part of this collection. The Shaw Festival Collection dates back to the founding of the theatre in 1962 and includes prompt scripts, set designs and models, publicity materials, administrative files, and videotapes.

1,500 monographs, serials, and audiovisual material; 1,600 files of programs, posters, scripts, photographs, designs, administrative files, and set models; over 5,000 clippings of reviews and articles; manuscripts, drafts, rehearsal proofs, printed ephemem, and other memorabilia; 62 rolls of microfilm of the more than 150,000 documents that comprise the Hamon Collection.
All published material is fully catalogued using LC classification and subject headings. Archival material is coded to the file or the item level and brought together under the name of one of the three collections - the Dan H. Laurence Collection, the Hamon Collection, the Shaw Festival Collection and/or the library's general Shaw collection. Collection codes also make it possible to provide printouts of the holdings of the collections.
