Darwin Collection
University of Toronto, Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library

Darwin, Charles; Evolutionary theory--History

The collection was established in 1967 when it was acquired from Richard Freeman of University College, London.

The collection consists of the writings of Charles Darwin and others (T. H. Huxley, Richard Owen, Ernst Haeckel, etc.) who were important in the development of evolutionary theory. Virtually all editions and issues of Darwin's work, illustrating textual changes made by him, are present. The chronological emphasis is from 1859 to the present.

English predominates. Editions of Darwin's work in other European languages are also included.

Approximatively 1 000 volumes.
