The collection began ca 1964. Working with both the Faculty of Education and the library administration, the late Dr. Laurence Wiedrick laid the ground work for a unique and sizeable collection.
The Audio-Visual Collection is part of the library's Curriculum Collection. It consists of almost all of the media formats, with the exception of 16mm film. The collection includes maps, globes, charts, filmstrips, flash cards, pictures/slides, transparencies, CD-ROMs and other machine readable files, kits, dioramas, games, models, realia, sound recordings, and video recordings. The bulk of the collection consists of material published since 1980. Efforts are made to collect at least samples of the latest media formats developed for education. Items related to the Alberta school curriculum are emphasized.
Approximately 25,000 titles.
The collection is catalogued. LC subject headings and classification are used.
