Women's Studies Mount Saint Vincent University, Library Subjects Women--History; Sex roles History The collection was established in 1967. It was started by Sister Catherine Wallace, then President of the University. It is currently supported by an endowment courtesy of Petro Canada, and by grants. Description The collection is a leading resource in the Maritimes on women's history. It indudes most published resources, from 1500 to 1940. The geographic emphasis is on European and North American publications. Microform editions of the following research collections are available: Gerristen; Women's History; Women's International League for Peace and Freedom; War Resisters International; and Archives of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. The collection excludes private archives and non-roman alphabets. Archives, as they become available in microform, are acquired. The Lesbian Pulp Fiction collection is shelved separately and consists of 119 paperback volumes as of 2002. Language The existing collection strength is multilingual (English, German, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Polish, and Spanish). At present, foreign language material is acquired selectively. Holdings 5,000 monographs; 361 serials; 30 serials currently received; 12,469 microforms; 4,185 manuscripts in microform. Bibliographic Access The collection is catalogued. Separate book catalogues are available. LC subject headings and classification are used. The holdings are recorded in the National Library Union Catalogue, the Nova Scotia Union Catalogue, and NOVANET Consortium. Physical Access The collection is open to the public.
