Eastern Townships Collection|
Bishop's University, John Bassett Memorial Library
Eastern Townships (Quebec)
While the library has always housed works concerning the Eastern Townships, the collection did not begin to expand significantly until the late 1950s and early 1960s. Due to the concentrated efforts of Arnold S. Banfill, Chief Librarian from 1951 to 1967, and Philip H. Scowen, long-time friend and benefactor of the university, the library acquired many rare and valuable items of local interest. A certain number were purchased, while others were donated. Since 1992, the archival material of the Eastern Townships Collection of the Library is managed by the Eastern Townships Research Centre.
The collection contains books and archival material (textual records, photographs, maps and plans, sound recordings, etc.) on the development of the Eastern Townships.
