This collection officially began in 1929 and was designed to support the basic discipline of mediaeval studies.
The collection includes catalogues of manuscript collections, facsimiles of manuscripts, and paleographic samples. The geographic and chronological emphasis is the mediaeval Latin West and Greek worlds.
The collection is catalogued. LC classification and LC subject headings are used. The holdings are recorded in the University of Toronto Union Catalogue, the National Library Union Catalogue, and UTLAS. A published catalogue for the entire holdings of the library is available (see below).
