History
The collection was established in 1971. The assets of the St. Dunstan's University Alumni Association were turned over to the library for the purpose of funding the collection. A small number of books from the collections of St. Dunstan's University and Prince of Wales College formed the beginning of the collection.
Description
The collection includes current and retrospective material published on Prince Edward Island written by Islanders or about the Island. Subjects covered in the collection include religion, economics, folklore, politics, education, the arts, literature, natural history, agriculture, and fisheries. Manuscript material is not collected. The library does not duplicate genealogical or agricultural research material found at the Prince Edward Island Heritage Foundation or the Department of Agriculture's Research Station at Charlottetown.

English and selected non-English material.

10,500 monographs; 150 serials (includes newsletters); 60 serials currently received; 1,763 microforms; 2 films; 55 audiotapes; 27 linear metres of vertical files.
Bibliographic Access
The collection is catalogued in the main library catalogue and in a supplementary separate card catalogue which provides access to vertical file material and newspaper references. Government departmental reports are not catalogued although they are accessible. LC subject headings and classification are used in addition to local subject headings.
