Buchan, John; Scottish literature
The collection was established in 1955. The personal library of John Buchan (lst Baron Tweedsmuir and Governor-General of Canada, 1935-40) was purchased from the Tweedsmuir family through the offices of the Rector of Queen's University, Dr. L.W. Broekington. Principal donors were Col. and Mrs. R. S. McLaughlin.
As the private working library of John Buchan, the collection covers many fields: belles-lettres, biography, history, classics, philosophy, and religion. Thirty literary manuscripts and first and early editions of all of Buchan's works are included. Critical works and new editions of Buchan's works are added to the main stacks collection. Any early editions, not already in the collection, are purchased as they become available.
4,590 monographs; 1 vertical file (consisting of 6 items); 30 literary manuscripts; 7.6 linear metres of papers in the University Archives, Kathleen Ryan Hall. Supplementary material to support this collection will be found in the main stacks collection.
