Children's and Young Adults' Literature Collection

Children's literature, Canadian

Since 1978 the children's and young adults' books in the National Library have been combined to form a distinct collection.

The Canadian Children's Literature Service provides reference, information and referral services based on its Children's Literature Service Collection. The comprehensive collection contains books suitable for children and young adults 16 years of age and under. It includes books written in English, French and other languages which are published in Canada, as well as books written or illustrated by Canadians and books about Canada, which are published abroad. Books in the collection date from the 19th century to the present day. They are acquired through legal deposit, purchase, or donation. The reference collection, although international in scope, emphasizes Canadiana and includes monographs, serials and vertical file material, including 900 files on Canadian authors, and illustrators, and others on award-winning books.
