Victoria University, E.J. Pratt Library
Coleridge, Samuel Taylor; Coleridge, Sara Fricker; Wordsworth, William; Lamb, Charles; Southey, Robert; English poetry
The collection belonged originally to a branch of the Coleridge family. It was acquired through the efforts of Professor Kathleen Coburn and with a grant from the McLean Foundation. The collection was received by the library in 1954.
The scope and depth of this research collection places it second in importance for Coleridge studies to that of the British Museum. Books by and about Samuel Taylor Coleridge and his circle include many owned and annotated by him. Reference works, critical monographs, and journals to support the collection are located in the open stacks. The library attempts to acquire important editions, critical works, and other signficant books relevent to the collection.
427 monographs; 4 serials; extensive manuscript material; 2 pamphlets.
The collection is catalogued and there is a separate card catalogue and shelf list. Annotated books and marginalia are listed numerically. LC subject headings and classification are used. H.O. Dendurent's article "Checklist of the Coleridge Collection" (see below) is also useful for access. The holdings are recorded in the University of Toronto Union Catalogue online and the National Library Union Catalogue.
The collection is housed in a special collections area. Materials are available to the public with identification. For further information visit: http://library.vicu.utoronto.ca/special/index.htm.
