The collection was established ca 1965. It has been developed over the years through purchases from antiquarian booksellers.
Description
This collection is part of the Eighteenth Century Collection. It consists of a large collection of material by Daniel Defoe who wrote on a wide variety of topics, including history, politics, government, and literature. First and eighteenth century variant editions of Defoe's works are present. Items attributed to Defoe are also included. Present acquisition plans are to purchase every Defoe item when available. Manuscripts are not collected.
Language
English, French, and German language editions, as well as other selected foreign language material.

345 monographs.
Bibliographic Access
The collection is catalogued and forms part of the Eighteenth Century Collection catalogue. LC subject headings are used. The material is not classified, and is arranged according to an internal shelving system. The holdings records are currently being converted to the library's online catalogue. Special bibliographies include an annotated copy of Moore's A checklist of the writings of Daniel Defoe (Hamden, Conn. : Archon Books, c1971).
