History
The collection began in 1968 with a gift from Miss Catherine Millen of Ottawa. The gift included first editions of twenty-three novels and other works. The items had been collected by Miss Millen's brother, Walter. Gifts from other donors have followed and a grant has also helped build the collection.
Description
The collection includes first and early British and American editions of Dickens' primary works. Some reference material and secondary work on Dickens (1812-1870) are also included. Most secondary material and later editions are, however, located in the main stacks collection or in the microform collection. Most of the material in the Dickens Collection is rare and primary.
