Norman Friedman Stephen Leacock Collection McGill University, Rare Books and Special Collections Library Subjects Leacock, Stephen Butler; Canadian literature History The collection was formed in 1945 from Stephen Leacock's bequest of his literary manuscripts and a gift of books by Leacock from the Montreal book collector Norman H. Friedman. Since that time, the collection has been developed by gifts and purchases. In 1984, a grant helped the department acquire an important body of manuscript material. Description The collection includes first, variant, and signed editions of Stephen Leacock's books. As well, there are periodical articles by Leacock, books about Leacock, books owned by Leacock, photographs, and portraits. The manuscripts include drafts of many of his books and articles as well as some correspondence both to and from Leacock. Language English. Holdings 265 monographs; 53 portrait photographs and drawings; 2.1 linear metres of literary manuscripts.
