Queen's University, Douglas Library, W.D. Jordan Special Collections and Music Library
Great Britain--Politics and government--17th-19th centuries; Great Britain--History--17th-19th centuries
The university has owned British political pamphlets from the first decade of its existence. The first recorded gifts were made in 1934. The present separate collection had its beginnings in a box received in 1965. Since then, the collection has been developed by Dr. Gunn, a specialist in seventeenth and eighteenth century British political history. Regular operating funds, special funds, gifts, and grants have helped build the collection.
The collection is a comprehensive collection on seventeenth, eighteenth, and early nineteenth century British politics and history in published pamphlet form. It includes material on the Civil War, the Standing Army Controversy, the struggles for reform in the 1780s and 1790s, and the Reform Bill of 1832. The collection includes scarce material. Seventeenth and eighteenth century British political pamphlets are acquired as they become available.
1,959 items. Supplementary material to support this collection will be found in the main stacks collection.
