History
The Brewster family of Hespeler, many of them school teachers, donated a significant number of school texts to the library in 1962. These texts were official texts approved by the Ontario Department of Education. The collection was augmented by a donation of school texts from retired Guelph school teacher Hugh Douglass in 1965. These two donations form the bulk of the collection.

Description
The collection includes spellers and readers as well as arithmetic, language, and history books from the early nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century. The emphasis of the material is the 1840s to the 1920s. The collection provides source materials for the study of the history of education and social development in Canada.

400 titles (900 volumes, including variant printings).

The collection is catalogued. LC subject headings and classification are used. The holdings are accessible through CD-ROM, local dial-up, or iNET.

Physical Access
