Ontario Textbook Collection, 1846-1970 Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto, OISE/UT Library Subjects School texts--Ontario History The Ontario Ministry of Education donated its textbook collection in 1974. Items have also been transferred from theTextbook Collection of the Faculty of Education Library at the University of Toronto. Description The collection includes textbooks approved for use in Upper Canada/Ontario from 1846 to 1970. Texts used prior to 1846 are also represented. Variant editions and printings are held. Texts approved by the Irish National Board of Education are represented. Copies annotated by textbook editors-in-chief and/or publishers are included. Supplementary material includes answer keys, manuals, guides, and workbooks. Existing holdings are supplemented through donations. The collection also includes extensive reference material on curriculum guidelines and textbook publishing. Language English predominates. German, Spanish, Latin, Greek, Italian, and Russian language material is also present as subjects of instruction. Holdings 3,600 titles. Bibliographic Access The collection is catalogued in the University of Toronto Libraries catalogue. Access is by author, title, subject, series, and authorization date. LC subject headings are used. The Dewey Decimal Classification is used. The holdings relate to the Ontario Department (Ministry) of Education Circular 14. Physical Access The collection is open to researchers.
