History
The collection was established in 2002. It was donated by Marvin Orbach through the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board. Marvin Orbach is a book collector and a librarian who lives in Montreal, Quebec. He has since the age of 17 collected works primarily by English Canadian poets and in 2002 donated over 2400 items including inscribed copies, some manuscript materials including letters, and some ephemera such as advertisements for poetry readings. The collection is being developed through frequent donations by Marvin Orbach.
Description
The aim of the collection is to provide a research collection which reflects the development of English Canadian poetry with particular emphasis on the highly creative period of the 1960s which saw a flowering of creative work by Canadian poets and a burst of Canadian publishing. It also provides important documentation for the study of book collecting and the history of the book in Canada.
Language
Mutilingual but primarily English. Includes translations into other languages such as French, Spanish, Italian, etc.
