Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies Library
Civilization, Slavic; Russia--History--To 1533; Russia--History--Sources
The collection officially began in 1971 when the library undertook to purchase books relevant for research into the history of Kievan Rus, and Muscovy. The collection has since been sustained in part with special grants.
Topics covered are political history, church history, social history, literature, art, architecture, historiography, archaeology, numismatics, and genealogical studies. There are a number of editions of original texts and microfiche reproductions of nineteenth century Russian serial publications. Of late, the library has begun to acquire materials on the history of the mediaeval Balkans, especially the regions of present-day Yugoslavia, notably Slovenia, Dalmatia, and Croatia.
10,000 monographs; 25 serial titles.
The collection is catalogued. LC classification and LC subject headings are used. The holdings are recorded in the University of Toronto Union Catalogue, the National Library Union Catalogue, and UTLAS. A published catalogue is available for the entire holdings of the library (see below).
