History
The collection has been a priority since the establishment of a rare book section in 1955. In 1993 the Canadian literature collection of Massey College was transfered to the Fisher Rare Book Library to be incorporated into the library's holdings.

Description
The collection is a comprehensive collection of Canadian poetry, fiction, drama in English, and of poetry and fiction in french. All editions of works of poetry and fiction by Canadian authors are acquired. Children's literature, except by authors usually knows as writers of literature for adults, is excluded. English Canadian literature manuscripts are also collected.

Language
English and French, however translations of Canadian authors in any language are acquired.

Holdings
Approximately 32 000 monographs and 150 serial titles.

Bibliographic Access
A large portion of the collection is not yet catalogued. A card file of material acquired by the Library prior to September 1992 gives access under author to these titles. After that date and prior to June 1996, computer printouts give access. There are no files for the Massey College collection. Catalogues materials is classified in the Canadian Literature Special Collection. A chronological file by date of publication also exists for the catalogued material, either in card format or online.
