Handout 3.1

Previous | Next

You represent the _______________________. This organization is funded entirely or in large part by the Canadian government. Because of this funding, it must face public scrutiny. The purpose of this inquiry is to look at how well groups with government funding are supporting the Canadian government's initiative of promoting the Canadian identity. The officials at the inquiry come from another country and know very little about your organization. Their job is to learn about your organization and your efforts to promote Canada. They will listen to your presentation and ask you questions that will clarify their knowledge of your organization and its role in promoting a common Canadian identity. At the end of the inquiry they will report on the things that Canada is doing well and make suggestions for future initiatives and direction.

Assignment
You will make a five minute presentation to the inquiry. Divide your presentation into two parts. First, give the historical background of your corporation/department answering such questions as: when, where, by whom and why it was formed. Secondly, tell the inquiry how your organization promotes the Canadian identity. Provide evidence to support each of your points. Most of your presentation should focus on the second part of the assignment. Specific tasks are organized in the charts below. Use the blank space of each task as a check list for tasks completed. Make sure all your group members are involved.
