Supplementary Activity 4
I Am Canadian
Several songwriters, poets and authors have written about the Canadian Identity. Look for some of these literary works and share them with the class. Potential works include:
- The poem, I am a Canadian, written by Duke Redbird. This poem was presented to Queen Elizabeth II in Ottawa in 1977 in honour of her 25th year as monarch.
- The Canadian rant by Joe in the beer commercial, I Am Canadian.
Have the students create their own television commercial, I Am Canadian. They can brainstorm their ideas, write the script, storyboard their commercial and if equipment is available, film and edit their commercial or have them write their own song or poem, I Am Canadian.
